Above is a iPhone shot from our church’s Super Bowl “Breakfast” party. Yup, I’ve never been up at 6 a.m. to watch the Super Bowl.  Come to think of it, I never imaged I’d be watching a Super Bowl in Hong Kong.  I’ve said this statement a lot recently and this game marks the end of a fabulous birthday weekend as well. Oh, and I DEFINITELY didn’t think I’d ever be celebrating my 26th birthday in Hong Kong.  With our students gone for the month for Chinese New Year, I’ve had some down time to experience more of Hong Kong. Yes, after 6 months of being here, there is still plenty to explore/enjoy.

My birthday extravaganza included- sushi, live jazz music, lots of bus rides, homemade enchiladas, gift cards, lots of skype calls, the latest HULU episode of The Office, a rainy horse race (VERY popular in HK, no I didn’t ride the horse, I just watched and cheered and left confused about how the whole horse race gambling system worked), and now, here I am watching the Super Bowl in HK. Nuts.

Not only have I used “Never thought I’d be here…” a lot recently, but I’ve also repeatedly said that, “I wouldn’t change ONE thing about last semester.” Yes, this little break is great, but I find myself really missing my new friends and can’t wait until they return at the end of the month. I miss laughing over Dim Sum with them, doing my best to answer questions about differences in creation and evolution asked by inquisitive minds, taking new folks to church with us on Sunday nights, eating the various university canteen food (kind of), and most of all, just sharing life with each of them.

What an adventure the Lord invites us into in this thing called life.  Whether you’re in the states or overseas, He simply asks us to know Him and keep our minds and hearts on things above. Keeping the main thing, the main thing… that’s it.  I know He’s worth all my energy and talent. I know He’s trustworthy because of the promise marked by a bloody and mocked cross. That was for you. That was for me.
